5 out of 5 stars Great monitor so far!!   August 27, 2010
jesbu (Albuquerque)
I bought this monitor in Target because I wanted something that would reach far (we have a 3500 sq foot single story house) and that wouldn't interfere with internet, microwave, phone, etc...Then I read all the negative reviews on it and debated taking it back unopened but decided to keep it because it is the only one that promised it would not interfere and it had one of the longest reaches. So far I have not been disappointed. I can hear my baby breathe while I'm outside 10 feet away from the house on the opposite side from her room with all the doors closed. It has minimal background static. We can operate all of our electronics without causing interference. We haven't used it over night yet so I'm not sure about the battery life. All in all, so far I would definitely recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Baby monitoring system   August 24, 2010
John Alexander
We have been very happy with system thus far. We don't have any young children any more. I am in my 60's, and am a bedridden quadriplegic. On Sundays, we have a Home Church, in our home. Since I am unable to be in the service, I use the monitor to at least hear the service. The second receiver works well in "cry room" for the nursing mothers. There is a strong, clean signal.

Thanks,

John & Joan

4 out of 5 stars Decent monitor   August 14, 2010
BridgitM (Atlanta, GA)
We started researching monitors before my son was born and received this as a shower gift. We had seen the negative reviews here, but MIL bought it because of good reviews on consumer reports, so we decided to give it a shot.
It has been decent-enough for the past 6 months we've used it. As with any product there are features that you care about and others that don't matter as much. And it sounds like there are lots of monitors out there that people think are terrible. These are my 2cents on what to know about this product before you buy.

Having two stations is great. We keep one upstairs and one downstairs in the kitchen/living area.
There is a wide range of audio levels to choose from. We started out having it on full blast and have gradually reduced the volume over time as we've become more comfortable. I haven't tried the vibe feature at all. It does a good job of keeping out white noise from fans or humidifiers, etc.

It was very easy to set up and we haven't had any issues with interference or overhearing anyone else's conversations. We are in a townhome community without any other kids nearby, so this wasn't a big concern, but we do like the security of the digital technology.

We have two cell phones, a wireless home telephone system w/4 phones, two separate wireless routers (one for personal and one for work) and a wireless printer. Sometimes there is clicking for no apparent reason. Perhaps this is interference with our wireless gear. It goes away on its own, but is pretty annoying because we can't stop it. This is mostly on the downstairs unit.

Also, sometimes the downstairs unit (but never the one in the bedroom) starts beeping and flashing red (as if the battery is about to die) for no apparent reason when it is on the base and fully charged. It's like the unit isn't fully seated in the charging base. This usually happens in the middle of the night and I've come downstairs to turn it off a few times. The beeping is loud! Now we usually just turn off the downstairs monitor before heading up to bed.

Whenever we lose power for a brief moment (summer storms), the child unit automatically shuts off and the receiving units start beeping loudly because there isn't a signal. Took a minute to figure out what happened the first time. I think you can put a battery back up in the child unit to avoid this.

The clip is useless. I tried to use it once or twice but it always falls off almost immediately. The audio is loud enough anyway if it's in the same room with you.

All that said, we just bought a video monitor (Summer Infant Best View) now that he's starting to move around fairly well, roll over, etc. We want to see him as he becomes a toddler and is prone to being more mischievous. Now that I have something to compare with, it makes it easier to appreciate certain things about the Graco.

1) Having two parent units is very nice but not totally necessary.

2) The audible "I'm about to turn off because the battery is dead" warning beep is very, very nice. The Summer just goes dead without any warning. So you have to be sure that it is plugged in at night. No big deal except that the instructions explicitly state not to keep it charging all the time or risk ruining the battery. You're supposed to run it completely dead before re-charging. This takes more planning, and we leave it on more often even when he isn't sleeping just to run the battery down during the day.

3) The mic on the Summer is much more sensitive. We can hear him sucking his thumb and sighing now, which is taking some getting used to, and I think it's a little too much especially since we can see him.

5 out of 5 stars Works well, I don't understand all the bad reviews!   July 30, 2010
Kt633 (Michigan, USA)
I don't usually review things, but I felt like I needed to review this one because after I got it for a shower gift I was really worried about all the negative reviews that I have seen about this monitor. It has been great for us! Good battery life, no blinking red lights, good sound, small enough to fit in your pocket, never looses reception. My son is 5 months old and we have used it every day of his life and never had one problem (knock on wood, knock on wood). We like that the base can be put anywhere and runs off of batteries if you need it too. (Really convenient when we lay him in the pack and play in the living room and we want to go outside for yard work). The vibration is a good option if you're doing something that you would not be able to hear the monitor, like mowing the lawn or something. We don't use it for anything else. We usually keep the monitors on their bases, because if you turn them up, you can hear them from a couple rooms away. There is really no need to wear these things unless you're outside or you live in a really big house. So, maybe that's why we haven't run into any battery issues.

2 out of 5 stars HATE this monitor! Cannot replace battery!   July 20, 2010
Momma Jess
We got this monitor as a baby gift when my daughter was born. We used it and really liked it for about the first 6 months. Then we moved into a 2 story house where we really needed it more and more. I was finding that it would not stay charged as long as time went on. Then it would not recharge at all or work when connected to the base. I went to 20+ stores trying to buy the rechargable battery that comes in it only to find out YOU CANNOT REPLACE THAT BATTERY MODEL! I was furious! A $90 monitor that lasted less than a year! I had to buy a new monitor....and it was NOT this one. Caution: Do not buy and expect that you can just replace the batteries when they quit recharging!
