worthless junk May 28, 2010 Eric Henyey (Seattle, WA) This monitor worked reasonably well for the first few weeks, but ever since then it has been essentially worthless. We almost never get a signal any more - we just hear static. Sometimes switching channels (there are two) and/or turning the unit on and off will make the unit work for a few seconds. When we do manage to get a signal it is still overloaded with static and, if we move the receiver or walk in front of it, prone to interference. The receiver is typically located about fifteen feet away from our baby's room, in a straight line and with only one closed door between the receiver and the monitor, so distance and obstructions are not factors. We've also tried changing the batteries and have not noticed any improvement.
I wish I had looked at the Amazon ratings before we bought this. It is a piece of garbage and has deterred me from buying anything from Fisher Price ever again.
love it! April 9, 2010 Rocker Mom This monitor has been wonderful for us! As long as you take the time to read and follow the set-up instructions, do the testing, and find the proper channel for your location it works like a dream. I can take it all over my very large yard and never anything but perfectly clear reception. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Especially if you have lots of computer and electronic devices as we do. Never any interference! Only drawback is the battery life. it runs them down quickly, but worth living with that for the overall great performance. Been using it for a year and a half and would absolutely buy again
The Worst Monitor Ever February 2, 2010 TexasGirl (Central Texas) I bought this today to replace a monitor I had that suddenly stopped working after 3 years. This monitor has 2 channels and neither works. All you will hear is a lot of static. OK, not true, you will also hear music that is not playing in your house or TV that your neighbors are watching. What you won't hear is your child above all that noise. This is being returned first thing in the morning.
El Cheapo October 14, 2009 Melissa Williams (Arizona) We have the really nice Angelcare monitor at home with motion sensor (which freaking rules, BTW) but I didn't want to travel with the nice one. So we went out and bought this el cheapo Fisher Price baby monitor as a cheap traveling monitor. Wow does it suck. You really do get what you pay for with this one.
Pros:
- Nightlight feature is a neat idea... (see cons)
- The sound-o-meter lights at the top can be seen from both sides of the receiver, which is kinda neat.
- the green power light on the receiver is crazy bright, if your eyes are adjusted to the dark you can almost see to walk
- I can hear my screaming toddler just fine, plenty loud and all that.
Cons:
- nightlight is not as bright as a normal nightlight, it's really dim so it's not as useful as it could be.
- the green power light on the receiver is crazy bright, point it away from your sleeping face.
- very static-y and buzzy. Sounds like a UFO is hovering on my nightstand. (Yes I've tried both A and B channels.)
- power cord for receiver *refuses* to stay plugged into receiver properly. I have to set it just right and very gently let go for it to work.
- tried batteries, which worked, but they didn't last long. could be a common thing but I could swear my Angelcare's batteries last longer.
- sound quality/clarity isn't as good as my Angelcare. With my Angelcare I could hear the tiny whisper of her breathing when she was a newborn.
Bottom-line... if you just need an el cheapo monitor to get you by for a while, or use it for travel, then it's tolerable. And if you leave it at a relative's by mistake, or if it breaks, you won't be too heartbroken. I really don't recommend using it full-time though, not by a long shot! I'm going to go post a review for my Angelcare monitor next, if you want to know more about that one.
Terrible Static! June 22, 2009 bibliophile (New Haven, CT) I bought this because of the good price. However, I had to return it (save the packaging until you try it out). It was completely unuseable. The static was so loud that it would have kept me up at night. I tried the two different settings and they both had way too much static.
