Okay Product, but Needs more work August 29, 2010 JOHN S HENNERFEIND Overall this product does what is advertised, however using it leaves a lot to be desired. To begin with, the vendor/distributor Safe Baby is one of the best companies I have dealt with. They shipped the product quickly, it worked out of the box, and when I found it didn't meet my needs, they were very helpful and quick with the return.
We recently had twins, and quickly tired of running into their room (currently same room) to see if they spit up/needed cleaned up, or were just fussing. We purchased the product in hopes that we could replace our audio monitor, but still have the ability to see what was going on without running back to their room.
The product itself has a relatively clear picture, even in low/no light. It feels cheaply built, but acceptable. I had my cameras near to the babies, so it illuminated them well even in complete darkness. One factor I had not considered was that as infants/preemies, we have to alternate how they face to avoid flat spots, that affects where you mount the cameras if you want to look closely, so keep that in mind. I ended up putting the camera above them, so although I could not see their face well, I could see enough no matter which way they were facing. This diminished its usefulness, but still was okay. I didn't have problems with range, but I was within 50 feet.
The product does also zoom, but not very effectively. You can choose a zone to zoom to, but that affects all cameras for the same zone, and zooming/moving the zoom, and zooming out is a very slow process.
For two cameras, the product will alternate between them automatically. You can set the interval up to 15 seconds, which I found was just barely enough time. When the cameras switch, the new camera switches on, then takes a moment to determine the light level/turn on the infrared, then adjusts the strength of the light, then you can see. All of this takes several seconds, leaving you with a mere 5 seconds to see how the baby is doing, then it switches again. This was not acceptable, so I switched to manual.
Manual switching can be accomplished via a menu (takes a while to switch cameras - not acceptable) or you can repurpose the volume to switch. I used the volume to switch since I change the volume level less frequently. While this allowed for better viewing of the babies, only the current monitor gives sound, and turning back on the automatic rotation is a pain, meaning my old audio monitor must stay (the camera would pickup the other baby in the room, but at too low a volume). Manual switching also tended to fail - saying the camera you were switching to wasn't there, switching again resulted in success, but was annoying when you wanted to quickly switch (and then wait 10 seconds to see anything).
All of this took longer than just getting up to check on them, so we returned the product. With older children, they would likely be more useful (less did they spit up, more are they awake/moving around), but the slow switching is still problematic. We own a ranch, so the walk is short, in a large house it may be more useful (but more issues with range).
Greatest Monitors August 27, 2010 Amazon Fan 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What can I say? I plugged in both cameras and they worked right away.
No interference even though I have too many wifi networks in my condo building to count; a wireless phone as well.
I had a little trouble adjusting the light level in the nursery in order to get the night vision to kick in. Daytime was to bright even with the blackout shades pulled. Once I blocked any additional light I could find, the night vision kicked right in.
The sound auto clips at a certain low volume, so you don't hear everything. I'm okay with this, but my wife would prefer to hear everything.
Batteries on the cameras and monitor last long enough, although I usually leave them plugged in. A USB port allows for additional charging options; I guess if you move the camera around, you could use a phone charger that has Mini USB...
A great video monitor August 23, 2010 P.Friend 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading the pros and cons of reviews on different monitors we decided to give this one a shot. It seemed that they may have solved most of the issues others have not. We have loved the video monitor since we received it.
The video quality is great during the day and at night, and the audio quality to good too. There is a slight delay that others have mentioned, but any digital monitor will have to have some delay. The delay is very short, and not bothersome to us at all.
I would highly recommend getting these video monitors.
(My only complaint would be that the monitor would look a bit more trendy without the colorful "Baby Safe" logo in large print on it.)
Meets all expectations August 22, 2010 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Only negatives: (1) Short camera battery life - about an hour when using night vision. Less than two hours in daylight. Camera performs flawlessly on A/C power. 120V adapter and USB cable included with the camera. (2) user interface could be better - less navagating through menus. Monitor battery life is good. All use Lithium Ion batteries.
Overall, we are very pleasd. No interference with our wireless G network. Great reception. Our home is three stories wiht several internal brick walls. The monitor has great reception even from opposite corners of the house. Excellent audio sensitivity. Excellent video quality. Ships with camera mounting brackets that also make great stands.
Great monitor but it has some issues August 5, 2010 E. Simon (Houston, Texas USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really don not have the time to review many products but now that I have been using this product for two months I just had to review it. I would give this product four stars but there are some thing that I do not like about it.
1. The cords that come with the cameras are way to short, sure you can zoom in to see your child closer but when your monitor is in normal view the camera has to be set very high in order to see the whole crib. This would not be an issue if the cord was long enough. I contacted the company in order to see if I could purchase longer cords and they said that they did not offer them, but that they where easily available. Now I have to take the time to search for the right cable and to tell you the truth, who has the time with two kids?
With my fist child I had a summer monitor and I never had a problem with the camera cord being short.
2. It is great that you can zoom in,but don't think the image is very clear.
3. There is a sound delay and at times the sound does not come through at all.
4. We lose picture and sound quality when we go in our back yard, this did not happen with our summer.
